Orientation for 2024 Summer Math Camps

This summer, our math camp kicked off with mandatory orientations held in two different locations: our office in Rochelle Park on June 29th and Masjid Fallahee in Newark on June 30th. These sessions marked the beginning of an exciting and educational journey for both students and parents. Attendance at the orientations was crucial, as it ensured everyone was well-prepared and informed about the program’s structure, objectives, and expectations.

Why Summer Math Camp

At the heart of our summer math camp is a commitment to improving mathematical skills and closing the learning gap. Our camp is designed not only to refresh students’ prior math knowledge and strengthen their foundations but also to prevent summer learning loss. By participating in our camp, students will gain an academic edge, get ahead for the next school year, and be better prepared for future courses in both high school and college.

Beyond academics, the camp provides an opportunity for students to make new friends, socialize, and receive individualized support tailored to their needs. We aim to maintain intellectual engagement throughout the summer, ensuring that students are ready for the challenges ahead. Since math is a prerequisite for many courses, building a strong foundation now will equip students for future academic success. Through a supportive and stimulating environment, we inspire students to explore the endless possibilities that math offers.

Responsibilities of Parents and Students

Effective communication and collaboration between parents, students, and teachers are essential for a successful summer math camp experience. During orientation, we outlined the key responsibilities of both parents and students to ensure a smooth and enriching camp.

Parents play a crucial role in the success of the Summer Math Camp. It is important that parents support UPLIFT’s discipline policy to help maintain a positive and productive learning environment for all students. Attending parent meetings is essential for staying informed and engaged in your child’s progress, as well as in the overall development of the program. Providing appropriate transportation is necessary to ensure that students arrive on time for all sessions, maximizing their learning opportunities. Moreover, maintaining open communication with instructors and responsible adults at the camp is key to addressing any concerns and staying connected with your child’s experience.

Students also have important responsibilities to fulfill during the camp. Punctual attendance is expected at all sessions, as this will help them make the most of the learning opportunities provided. Completing all homework assignments before class time is essential for being fully prepared for each lesson. Active participation in class activities and paying attention during instruction will allow students to get the most out of the program. It is also important to show respect towards instructors, peers, and others at the camp, creating a supportive and collaborative environment for everyone. Finally, completing all surveys or reports required by the program is necessary to provide valuable feedback and fulfill the camp’s requirements.

A Successful Start

The orientation sessions in both locations were a great success, setting a positive tone for the upcoming weeks. Parents and students left with a clear understanding of the program’s value and the role they each play in making the camp a memorable and impactful experience.

As we embark on this summer math camp journey, we are excited about the growth and discoveries that lie ahead.
