UPLIFT Academy’s annual Essay Bootcamp for high school juniors was a tremendous success, bringing together students from multiple partner sites for two days of focused writing, learning, and growth. Held on April 19–20, in partnership with SKY Academy at its Youth Center in Rochelle Park, the camp equipped juniors with the tools they need to craft compelling personal statements for their college applications.
Students participated in seminars, guided writing sessions, peer discussions, and one-on-one feedback — all supported by UPLIFT and SKY’s dedicated college counselors, Neriman Kose and Mustafa Er. Their expert guidance helped students brainstorm authentic stories, refine their voice, and understand what admissions committees look for.
Beyond academics, the bootcamp also fostered connection and community. Students enjoyed fun break-time activities and used the downtime to socialize, build friendships, and expand their networks across different schools and programs.
The success of this year’s bootcamp reflects UPLIFT Academy’s commitment to preparing students not only for strong applications, but for the confidence and community needed to thrive on their path to college.
